The original design seems to be from the July 1998 issue of the American magazine ELECTRONICS NOW. A description can be found on Ian Purdies website. This design uses only the oscillator part of the original design.

The switches in the original design have been replaced by relays driven from the LPT port. The way the oscillator frequency is measured can be found in the description of the 80 MHz frequency counter
